MD & Accompanist
Tom regularly accompanies and plays rehearsal piano for a variety of situations, most recently accompanying tenor Timothy Peters at Leeds Lieder Festival 2018 for the premiere of a composition by Ellen Sargen. As a collaborative performer, Tom has played for rehearsals of Bach's Mass in B minor with the English Touring Opera, and accompanied the University of Sheffield Music Department's choir Jessop Voices in their performance of Vivaldi's Gloria in November 2017. He has also premiered new compositions at Leeds Lieder Festival 2017 and Sheffield University's Firth Hall, as well as accompanying soloists at the latter venue.
Additionally, Tom has extensive experience in theatre as a musical director, vocal coach and pit orchestra player. He has worked on numerous well-known productions including Oliver!, Spamalot and Ordinary Days, as well as new pieces of writing for the stage. Theatrical engagements include keyboard and music directorial roles at Sheffield Theatres Crucible (Songs From the Seven Hills, What We Wished For), Sheffield University Drama Studio (Spring Awakening, A Streetcar Named Desire) and the Pleasance Theatre in London (Departures: A Song Cycle). Tom has most recently assisted Dan Gillespie Sells as Keyboard Programmer for a production of A Midsummer Night’s Dream at Sheffield Theatres.
